호랑이가 내려온다는 의미.

판소리 수궁가에서 나오는 부분이다. 

 

자라가 토끼의 간을 구하기 위해 육지로 내려간다. 그런데 자라는 토끼를 부른다는 게 호랑이를 잘못 불러 사달이 났다는 이야기.

조선 후기에 전해져내려 오는 이야기.

남해의 용왕이 갑자기 병이 난다. 어떤 도사가 나타나 토끼의 간을 먹으면 병이 낫는다고 하자 용왕은 수궁 대신들을 모아놓고 육지에 나갈 사자를 고른다. 하지만 서로 싸우기만 하지 약을 구하러 가겠다는 신하가 없다. 이때 별주부 자라가 자원하여 토끼의 간을 가지고 오겠다고 한다. 자라는 토끼를 만나러 육지에 가 높은 벼슬자리를 줄 테니 용궁에 가자고 한다. 용궁으로 간 토끼는 자신이 속은 것을 알고 간을 육지에 두고 왔다고 한다. 용왕은 토끼에게 육지로 가서 간을 가져오라고 하지만 육지에 다다른 토끼는 자라를 조롱하면서 숲 속으로 도망간다. 자라는 토끼똥을 대신 가져가 약이라고 하며 용왕은 이를 먹고 병이 낫는다.
